In the 1970's, SRP operations centered around coal shipping. The 1980's saw coal and grain loaded on the river and primarily sand being offloaded. In the 1990's a decline in coal mining resulted in removal of the rail spur to neighboring, Eldorado, Illinois. Today, SRP has launched a revitalization project to transition from a coal community. A Master Plan funded through the US Department of Transportation will offer significant value by providing SRP with a long-term strategic framework for development, guiding infrastructure and operations to meet future demand while addressing environmental and social obligations. SRP will seek business, public, and regional input to help create a new vision for the port and drive economic development for our community.
